AMBASSADOR P. ROBERT FANNIN DURING THE FUNERAL OF SPECIALIST LUIS FELIZ NIEVES

I wish to thank the family of Jorge Luis Feliz Nieves for
the opportunity to share a few words to honor the life of their loved one. I
assure you that the Government of the United States of America and the Embassy
of the United States in the Dominican Republic have been profoundly saddened by
the loss of soldier Jorge Luis Feliz Nieves.
Today, in a tragic morning seven years ago, terrorists took
the lives of many innocent people, including the lives of many Dominican
citizens during the terrorist attacks. Our country continues to mourn that
tragic day. Reflecting on the loss of soldier Feliz Nieves in the struggle to
obtain a victory against the terrorists, we remember all the victims of that
tragic day.
“Moreno”, as his family called him, chose a life filled
with sacrifices. In this honorable road, he put his life in danger for our
freedom. It was a road undertaken that unfortunately led to the death of this
brave soldier. All who knew “Moreno” will always remember him as a defender of
freedom and a great hero.
To “Moreno’s” family, I extend my deepest condolences and I
share your grief for his loss.
