Remember to Check your Nonimmigrant Visa When you Receive It

We would like to remind all people who are issued nonimmigrant visas to be sure to check all the information that is printed on your visa.  This includes information such as your name, date of birth, gender, and your nationality.  Errors can occur and once you have your visa in hand, the responsibility is yours to alert us to any changes that need to be made.

Should you notice an error on your visa, please bring your passport to the Consular Section as soon as possible.  If this occurs within one year of the visa’s issuance, the correction will be made free of charge; however, you will have to bring a new, Internet-completed application form along with a new photo.  If a year or more has passed since the visa was issued, you will need to pay again the US$100 visa fee for the issuance of a new visa, as well as bring with you a new, Internet-completed application form with a new photo.

Another important reason to check all the information on your visa is that errors on your visa may cause problems for you when traveling that can include not being admitted to the United States by the immigration officer at the port of entry.

As always, if you have any questions about the nonimmigrant visa process, please go to our web page at http://www.usemb.gov.do/Consular/niv-s.htm.
