16 January 2001 U.S. Embassy Offers Reception in Honor of Dominican Military Officials SANTO DOMINGO – The United States Embassy today, Wednesday, January 16, offered a reception in honor of the high Dominican military commands in the Ambassador’s residence. Lieutenant General José Miguel Soto Jiménez, Secretary of Sate of the Armed Forces of the Dominican Republic, and his wife, headed the list of invitees. The United States Ambassador to this country, Hans H. Hertell, accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel John T. Hennessy, Military Attaché, and Lieutenant Colonel David Naber, from the Military Advisory and Assistance Group (MAAG), both from the diplomatic mission, welcomed the distinguished guests. During the reception, Ambassador Hertell thanked the Secretary of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Soto Jiménez, as well as the Chief of Staff of the National Army, Major General Manuel Polanco Salvador; of the Dominican Air Force, Major General Rafael Bueno Vásquez; the Dominican Navy, Vice Admiral Luis Alberto Humeau Hidalgo; as well as the Chief of the National Police, Major General Jaime Marte Martínez, for their presence. In brief remarks spoken during the ceremony, Ambassador Hertell thanked the Dominican military for their presence in the reception, and pointed out the process of modernization and reorganization experienced by the Dominican Armed Forces during the tenure of Lieutenant General Soto Jiménez. |
