United States Ambassador and Mrs. Hertell Offer Reception in Honor of Diplomatic, Consular Corps, and Representatives of International Organizations

SANTO DOMINGO – The United States Ambassador to this country, Hans H. Hertell, and his wife, Marie Hertell, offered a warm reception to the honorable chiefs of missions and representatives of international organizations accredited in this country. The ambassador expressed to his “colleagues” in the “promotion of peace and understanding between nations,” his “most sincere appreciation for all of the support received by your respective countries and the cause of freedom after the tragic ocurrences of last September.”

Ambassador Hertell, accompanied by his wife, received the guests in the headquarters of the Embassy residence.

In remarks spoken during the ceremony, Ambassador Hertell expressed to all of the guests: “We represent all corners of the world, all of the continents, all regions. But we have in common the desire to build peaceful and prosperous societies for all of our peoples, while we build what President Bush has called “a world above terror,” a “world of greater opportunities, freer trade, solid security, and more individual freedoms.”

At the same time, he stated that “Tonight I feel very pleased to be able to visit with all of you while we work together, with our Dominican hosts, to strengthen our democratic values, freedom, and human decency, guaranteeing that all of our children will enjoy peace and opportunities which can offer truly full lives for all.”

Monseignor Paolo Gualtieri attended in representation of Monseignor Timothy Broglio, Apostolic Nuncio and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in this country.

Ambassador Hertell was accompanied during the reception by the Chargé d´Affairs of the United States mission, Mrs. Janice L. Jacobs, as well as other officials of the Embassy.
