United States Embassy Presents New Press Attaché

SANTO DOMINGO – The Chargé d´Affairs of the United States Embassy, Janice L. Jacobs, offered a reception in her residence to welcome Susan Emerson, the new Press Attaché of the diplomatic mission. Susan Emerson previously worked for three years in the State Department in Washington, D.C., as Academic Exchange Specialist in the United States Studies Office in the office of Academic Exchange Programs, Educational and Cultural Affairs. Before working with the State Department, Mrs. Emerson worked with the Pan American Health Organization, the Council for Teacher Exchange, and the Organization of American States. In the past, she has studied in Argentina and Spain, worked in Perú and Guatemala, and travelled throughout South America.

Mrs. Emerson obtained a Master´s in International Development from American University in Washington, D.C. Born in California, she obtained her Bachelor´s Degree from the University of California, majoring in International Relations and Spanish. Besides handling the relations with the country´s press, Mrs. Emerson will be in charge of handling the Information Center of the Franklin Center, the Embassy´s web page (http://www.usemb.gov.do) and the satellite programs and digital video programs offered by the diplomatic mission.

Mrs. Emerson is married to Luis F. Plaza, originally from Perú, where he worked in rural development programs. The couple has two daughters, Nicole and Vanessa Plaza.
