7 March 2002 U.S. Ambassador Affirms Bilateral Trade with Florida Represents One Third International Business Volume with Dominican Republic SANTO DOMINGO - “Trade exchange with the state of Florida represents nearly one third of the Dominican Republic´s volume of international trade,” said the United States Ambassador, Hans H. Hertell, during a cocktail offered in honor of the delegates of a trade mission from the State of Florida which visited the country during on March 6 and 7. The cocktail, which was hosted by the Commercial Affairs Adviser of the United States Embassy, Terry Sorgi, was held in the Hotel Santo Domingo, and was attended by well known Dominican businessmen and representatives of the Dominican government. With regard to the bilateral trade between the United States and the Dominican Republic, Ambassador Hertell stated that: “The bilateral trade between the United States and the Dominican Republic during the last 7 months of 2001 increased by some 2 in comparison with the same period of 2000, reaching five billion dollars, divided equally between imports and exports.” The trade mission from the state of Florida was made up of nine United States companies interested in establishing commercial exchanges with Dominican companies who are interested in purchasing products or representations new to the Dominican market. Among the products and services offered are water pumps for domestic and industrial use, financial services and financing, cargo terminal and warehousing, pneumatic sealers, electrical and electronic devices, water storage tanks made of steel, equipment for industrial and comemrcial refrigeration, and automotive parts, among others. The delegation was organized by Enterprise Florida, Inc., a partnership between business and governmental leaders from the state of Florida, under the direct leadership of Governor Jeb Bush. The mission of Enterprise Florida is to increase economic opportunities for all Floridians by supporting the creation of quality jobs, a well trained work force, and competitive companies on a global level. |
