USAID and World Bank Offer Course on Evaluation and Monitoring of Learning in the Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO – Sponsored by the World Bank Institute, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Program for Educational Reform for Latin America and the Caribbean (PREAL), a course on the Evaluation and Monitoring of Learning will take place in Santo Domingo. It is being organized by Acción para la Educación Básica, Inc. (EDUCA).

The course is intended to offer a solid conceptual framework for the analysis of educational reforms, centered on results obtained through classroom work. Also, to train educators on the management of evaluation indicators which will permit decision-making in educational policy matters.

It is directed basically to personnel responsible for decision-making in the national educational system, technical personnel from the Secretariat of State for Education, university professors and professors from public and private educational centers, and non-governmental organizations interested in the subject

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Gilbert Valverde, a specialist in the area of evaluation, from New York State University – Albany, as well as Dr. Miriam Waiser of the World Bank Institute, and Dr. Mónica González, specialist in the area of information systems, from Argentina.

The course on Evaluation and Monitoring of Learning will take place from April 8 through the 12 in the Hotel V Centenario in this city of Santo Domingo. The closing ceremony, programmed for Friday, April 12, will include participation by Mrs. Janice Jacobs, Chargé d´Affaires of the United States Embassy, the Representative of the World Bank, Marco Mantovanelli, and the President of EDUCA, Celso Marranzini, as well as the principal authorities from the Secretariat of State of Education.
