6 May 2002 United States Consular Section Introduces Innovative System of Documents DeliveryThe Consular Section of the United States Embassy is pleased to announce that it now has an innovative system which facilitates the direct home delivery of documents to those persons who have been granted tourist or non-immigrant visas, or permanent residence visas. The service also includes home delivery of United States passports requested for in the Consular Section. This system, carried out with Caribe Express, will save Dominicans and United States citizens resident in this country long hours of waiting and/or multiple trips to the Consular Section. This service is directed specifically to those persons to whom visas have been granted or who have requested new United States passports. The system functions as follows. Each person who requests a visa or United States passport in the Consular Section is handed a receipt, on which is included information and basic instructions on this service. Three days (including weekends and holidays) after having received the receipt in the Consular Section, a messenger from Caribe Express will delivery to the address previously indicated by the applicant, his passport already stamped with the visa, his residency visa, or his United States passport. The applicants, or their representatives, have to be at the place indicated previously, and must correctly identify themselves with their personal identification card, and pay RD$20 to the Caribe Express messenger when he delivers their document. The persons who do not receive their documents after three calendar days have transpired, must contact Caribe Express at the telephone number appearing on the receipt given to them during their visit to the Consular Section. Caribe Express will make three attempts to locate and deliver the documents to the interested party. If for any reason Caribe Express cannot locate this person, the documents will be returned to the closest office of Caribe Express. The documents are kept in the company´s security boxes for a month, and the United States passports are kept for seven calendar days. If the documents are not withdrawn from the corresponding offices during this period, they are returned to the Consular Section where the applicants must pick them up as soon as possible. We have other solutions for those persons with specific urgent needs. |
